A monoblock (single-channel) amp is the right way to power car subwoofers. It’s built to make lots of low-frequency power into low impedances, with the crossover and bass controls a sub needs. These are the ones we’d buy, chosen on manufacturer ratings, features and the reputations of the brands behind them. Not sure what size you need? Start with our amp sizing guide.

Our picks
Rockford Fosgate Punch P1000X1bd
For one or two subs that need up to 1,000 W at 1 Ω.
- 1,000 W × 1 at 1 Ω
- 500 W at 2 Ω, 300 W at 4 Ω
- Class BD, 86% efficient at 4 Ω
- Sold by Rockford Fosgate
Rockford rates the P1000X1bd at 1,000 W into 1 Ω, enough for a pair of 500 W subs, and lists its “dynamic” power at 1,430 W into 1 Ω.
- Strong 1 Ω output
- Efficient Class BD design
- Bought direct from Rockford on Amazon
- Power drops sharply at 4 Ω
- Best value only if you can wire to 1 Ω
Kicker CXA800.1
For a single 500–600 W sub, especially with a factory radio.
- 800 W at 1 Ω, 600 W at 2 Ω, 300 W at 4 Ω (Kicker)
- Accepts up to 40 V speaker-level input
- KickEQ 0–6 dB at 40 Hz
- 25 Hz subsonic filter
Kicker’s FIT+ input takes speaker-level signals of up to 40 V, so many factory radios can connect without a line output converter. The 25 Hz subsonic filter is ideal for ported boxes.
- Speaker-level input built in
- Subsonic filter for ported boxes
- Compact chassis
- Bass knob sold separately (this listing includes one)
Kicker CXA1200.1
For two subs at 1 Ω, or a big single sub at 2 Ω.
- 1,200 W at 1 Ω and 2 Ω (Kicker)
- 600 W at 4 Ω
- Same KickEQ, subsonic and FIT+ input as the CXA800.1
Because it makes its full 1,200 W at 2 Ω as well as 1 Ω, the CXA1200.1 is flexible: it can power two DVC4 subs at 1 Ω or one large sub wired to 2 Ω. This listing comes with Kicker’s CXARC bass knob.
- Full power at 2 Ω as well as 1 Ω
- Bass knob included in this bundle
- Speaker-level input
- Long chassis (12 inches)
- Needs 4 AWG OFC at least
Rockford Fosgate Prime R2-500X1
For a single 300–500 W sub in a tight space.
- 500 W at 2 Ω, 300 W at 4 Ω
- Not 1 Ω stable
- Compact Prime chassis
The R2-500X1 is Rockford’s small, affordable sub amp. It suits one DVC4 sub wired to 2 Ω, or a single 4 Ω sub that needs around 300 W.
- Compact, simple design
- Simple 2 Ω or 4 Ω setup
- From a major brand
- No 1 Ω option
- Not enough for two big subs
Rockford Fosgate Prime R2-1200X1
For two subs at 1 Ω on a budget.
- 1,200 W at 1 Ω
- 800 W at 2 Ω, 400 W at 4 Ω
- Class D
More power than the P1000X1bd at 1 Ω, in the more affordable Prime line. A good match for two 600 W subs such as the P3D4-12.
- 1,200 W at 1 Ω
- Good value per watt
- Rockford ratings
- Less efficient than Class BD
Skar Audio RP-1200.1D
For maximum power per dollar into 1 Ω.
- 1,200 W RMS at 1 Ω (Skar)
- +6 / +12 dB bass EQ at 45 Hz
- 4 AWG power terminals
- Remote level control included
Skar lists 1,200 W RMS at 1 Ω but doesn’t list 2 Ω or 4 Ω ratings on Amazon, so it’s best when you can wire your subs to 1 Ω.
- Lots of power for the money
- Remote level included
- Sold by Skar Audio
- 2 Ω and 4 Ω ratings not listed
- Bass EQ is easy to overdo
CT Sounds CT-1000.1D

- 1,000 W at 1 Ω, 650 W at 2 Ω, 350 W at 4 Ω (at 14.4 V)
- Compact chassis
- Bass knob included
CT Sounds rates this amp at 14.4 V, the voltage of a running car, and includes a bass knob.
- Small for 1,000 W
- Bass knob included
- Sold by CT Sounds
- Smaller brand than Rockford or Kicker
Taramps Smart 3 Bass
For 2,000–3,000 W systems with several subs.
- 3,000 W RMS from 0.5 to 2 Ω
- Multi-impedance design
- 200 A fuse; 4 to 1/0 AWG input
Taramps says the Smart 3 delivers its full 3,000 W anywhere from 0.5 to 2 Ω, which makes wiring several subs simpler. It needs 1/0 wire and a strong charging system.
- Same power across 0.5–2 Ω
- Huge output
- Built-in protection
- Needs serious electrical upgrades
- No 4 Ω rating

How to choose
- Match RMS at your final load. Our sizing guide walks through it.
- Check the lowest stable load. Two DVC4 subs wired to 1 Ω need a 1 Ω-stable amp.
- Look for a subsonic filter if your subs are in a ported box.
- Factory radio? A speaker-level input (like Kicker’s FIT+) can save you a line output converter.
- Budget for wiring. A 1,000 W amp needs 4 AWG copper; see our wiring kit guide.
Safety first: disconnect the battery’s negative terminal before you start, fuse the power wire within 18 inches of the battery, and use a professional installer if you’re not comfortable working on your car’s electrics.
FAQs
What does “1-ohm stable” mean?
The amp can safely drive a 1 Ω load, which is where most monoblocks make their most power.
Class D or Class AB for subs?
Class D. It’s far more efficient, runs cooler and draws less current for the same output.
Do I need a bass knob?
It’s not essential, but it lets you turn the sub down for bass-heavy songs without touching the gain.
Can a monoblock power door speakers?
No. Monoblocks are designed for subwoofers; use a 4-channel amp for speakers.
