SVS PB-1000 Pro Review (2026): Big Ported Bass Without the Big Price

The SVS PB-1000 Pro is the ported version of SVS’s best-selling SB-1000 Pro. Same 12-inch driver, same 325-watt amplifier, same app, but in a much bigger cabinet with two ports. That extra box size buys deeper, louder bass for films. Here’s what it does well, where it falls short, and who should choose it over its sealed sibling.

Our verdict

SVS PB-1000 Pro

The ported version of our favorite all-rounder. It trades a bigger cabinet for deeper, louder bass, and SVS’s app makes it unusually easy to dial in. If you have the room for it, it’s the most bass we’d recommend at this level.

  • 12-inch long-throw driver
  • 325 W RMS / 820 W peak Class D
  • Dual front ports, app-switchable to sealed tuning
  • 17–260 Hz ±3 dB (SVS spec)
  • Line, LFE and speaker-level inputs; SVS app

If you have a medium or large room and movies matter as much as music, this is one of the easiest big-bass subs to live with. If space is tight or you mainly listen to music in a small room, the sealed SB-1000 Pro is the better choice.

Strengths

  • Deep extension and real output for medium to large rooms
  • The SVS app makes EQ, phase and presets easy from your seat
  • Sealed mode for tighter bass, or for sharing a small room
  • Speaker-level inputs work with stereo amps
Weaknesses

  • Large cabinet: about 20 inches deep with the grille
  • Front ports can be heard if pushed hard in a tight corner
  • Only one finish (black ash)

The PB-1000 Pro shares its driver and amplifier with the sealed SB-1000 Pro. The difference is the cabinet: a much larger box with two ports gives it more output in the deepest octave, where ported subs have the advantage.

How it sounds

Movies and games

This is where the ports earn their keep. Independent reviews describe the PB-1000 Pro as deep, controlled and well connected to the room with film soundtracks, with one AV Nirvana reviewer seeing in-room peaks of around 107 dB from a single unit while it stayed composed. Its rated response reaches 17 Hz, a few hertz lower than the sealed SB-1000 Pro, and that shows in the physical weight of explosions and engine rumble. Reviewers’ main reservation is that in the very heaviest scenes, the lowest octave can feel a little less forceful than a larger sub or a pair of subs would deliver.

Music

Ported subs have a reputation for being slow or boomy with music. Reviewers found the PB-1000 Pro keeps pace with bass guitar and kick drum at normal and high levels, though one noted some bloom when it was jammed into a corner. That’s mostly a placement issue rather than a flaw in the sub: corners boost bass and smear timing. If you mostly listen to music in a small or medium room, switch to sealed mode in the app; it trades a little deep extension for tighter, cleaner bass.

Setup tips

  • Give it space. Ported subs need a few inches of clearance in front of the ports. Use our placement calculator to find the smoothest spot in your room before settling on a corner.
  • Start at 80 Hz. With an AV receiver, set the speakers to Small and the crossover to 80 Hz, then set the sub’s low-pass to LFE or bypass. Our crossover finder covers the details.
  • Use the app’s EQ sparingly. Cut the biggest room peak with one parametric band; avoid boosting dips, which wastes power.
  • Check the timing. Our distance and phase calculator and a quick test with our test tones make sure the sub and speakers add up rather than cancel.

If your room is small or the sub needs to fit beside a TV unit, the SB-1000 Pro is the better buy: same amp and app in a far smaller sealed box (see our SB-1000 Pro review). If you want more headroom for a big room, the PB-2000 Pro steps up to a bigger amplifier and cabinet. Two PB-1000 Pros, placed well, will usually beat one larger sub for smooth bass across several seats; our dual subwoofer guide explains why.

Who should buy it

  • Home theater fans with a medium or large room who want deep, physical bass.
  • Anyone who wants app control of EQ, phase and presets without extra hardware.
  • Owners of stereo amps with no sub output, thanks to the speaker-level inputs.
  • People planning to add a second sub later.

Who should look elsewhere

  • If space is tight, the sealed SB-1000 Pro is much easier to place.
  • If you mainly play music in a small room, a fast sealed sub suits you better; see our subwoofers for music.
  • If your budget is tighter, the Klipsch R-120SW offers a lot of output for less.

FAQs

Is the PB-1000 Pro too big for a living room?

It’s large, about 15 inches wide, 19 inches tall and 20 inches deep, so measure first. If it fits, it works fine in a living room; the app’s sealed mode and room gain compensation help in smaller spaces.

Should I use ported or sealed mode?

Ported mode gives the most output and extension, which suits movies in bigger rooms. Sealed mode trades a little depth for tighter bass and less chance of port noise, which suits music and smaller rooms. Try both; the app switches between them.

Does it work with a stereo amplifier?

Yes. Use the speaker-level inputs if your amp has no sub output, or the line inputs if it does. Our guide to connecting a sub without a sub output walks through it.

PB-1000 Pro or SB-1000 Pro?

Choose the PB for bigger rooms and movie impact, and the SB for compact size, music and smaller rooms. They share the same amplifier and app.
