ELAC’s Debut speakers have been budget favorites for years, and the Debut 3.0 subwoofers announced in May 2025 complete the latest range. The DS123 is the 12-inch model: a sealed cabinet with a 200-watt amplifier and the high-level connections stereo listeners want. It’s still new, and independent measurements haven’t appeared yet, so this review is based on ELAC’s specs and design.
ELAC Debut 3.0 DS123
A tidy sealed 12-inch sub aimed at music lovers and mixed systems, with high-level inputs and outputs and a sensible 28 Hz rating. Promising on paper; we’re waiting for independent tests.
- 12-inch polypropylene woofer
- 200 W RMS / 400 W peak Class D
- Sealed cabinet
- 28 Hz (−3 dB), 26 Hz (−6 dB)
- LFE, stereo and high-level inputs
If you want a sealed sub that blends easily with Debut 3.0 or other bookshelf speakers, it’s a strong candidate. If you want measured performance today or app control, the SVS SB-1000 Pro is the proven alternative.
- Sealed design for tight, controlled bass
- High-level inputs and outputs for stereo amps
- Auto on/off signal sensing
- Compact cube of about 14 inches
- No independent measurements yet
- No app, room EQ or parametric EQ
- Sealed 12-inch won’t play as loud as ported rivals in big rooms

How it sounds
Music
Sealed subs roll off gently and stop quickly, which suits bass guitar, kick drums and acoustic bass. With 200 W RMS and a 28 Hz −3 dB rating, the DS123 should fill in the bottom octave that bookshelf speakers miss in a small to medium room. The high-level connection lets it take the same signal your speakers get from a stereo amp, which tends to help it blend.
Movies and games
For TV and films in a living room, a 12-inch sealed sub with this rating will add real weight. In larger rooms, or at reference levels, a ported design or a sub with more amplifier power will hit harder in the deepest notes. We’ll update this review when measurements are published.
Setup tips
- Pick the right input. LFE from an AV receiver; high-level from a stereo amp without a sub out. Our high-level guide shows how.
- Set the crossover low with good speakers. With bookshelf speakers, start around 80 Hz; use our crossover finder for a starting point.
- Place it near the front and use our placement calculator to avoid the biggest room peaks.
- Flip the phase switch while playing a test tone and keep the louder setting at your seat.

The SVS SB-1000 Pro costs more but adds an app with parametric EQ and proven measurements (see our review). The Polk Monitor XT12 is the budget ported alternative. For a smaller room, ELAC’s 10-inch DS103 or our bookshelf-speaker sub picks are worth a look.
Who should buy it
- Owners of ELAC Debut 3.0 or other bookshelf speakers.
- Stereo listeners who need high-level inputs.
- Small to medium rooms where a compact sealed box fits.
- Music-first systems that also play TV and films.
Who should look elsewhere
- If you want proven, measured performance now, see the SVS SB-1000 Pro.
- If you have a large room, look at a ported sub such as the PB-2000 Pro.
- If you want room EQ in an app, ELAC doesn’t offer it on this model.
FAQs
When did the ELAC Debut 3.0 subwoofers launch?
ELAC announced the DS103, DS123 and DS153 in May 2025.
Sealed or ported for music?
Sealed usually blends more naturally with music. Our ported vs sealed guide explains the trade-offs.
Does it work with a stereo amp?
Yes. Its high-level input connects to your amp’s speaker terminals, and the high-level output passes the signal on to your speakers.
DS123 or DS153?
The 15-inch DS153 suits bigger rooms. For most living rooms, the DS123 is enough.
