Danish speaker maker Dali is releasing a new compact subwoofer this month. The Dali Basik Sub is an 8-inch, down-firing design aimed at living rooms where looks matter, with a choice of colourful finishes that are a long way from the usual black box. Here’s what we know.
- 8-inch (20 cm) down-firing woofer with a paper-pulp cone.
- Class-D amplifier rated 170 W RMS, 220 W peak.
- Stereo line and mono LFE inputs; gain, 40–120 Hz crossover, 0–180° variable phase and a dual-stage limiter.
- About 32 × 30 × 31 cm.
- Launch coverage lists £429 / €500; release in October 2026 in several finishes.
Design and features
The Basik Sub is a small cube, roughly 32 cm tall, with its 8-inch driver firing into the floor. That keeps the driver hidden and the front clean, which suits a design-led product offered in finishes including white, caramel, yellow and blue as well as black. Down-firing subs do need a solid floor and a little clearance underneath; see down-firing vs front-firing subwoofers for the trade-offs.
The control set is better than you’d expect on a lifestyle product. A continuously variable phase control (0–180°) is genuinely useful for blending with stereo speakers, and the dual-stage limiter should help protect the driver when it’s pushed. Inputs cover both receivers (LFE) and stereo amps or powered speakers (line in).
Pricing note
What Hi-Fi?’s launch report lists the Basik Sub at £429 in the UK and €500 in Europe. It also quoted a US price that looks high relative to those figures, so check with US dealers once stock lands rather than relying on the launch number.

Who it’s for
Small living rooms, bedrooms and lifestyle systems built around bookshelf speakers, especially Dali’s own, where the sub will be on show. An 8-inch sub is the right size for spaces under about 200 sq ft; in bigger rooms, look at a 10- or 12-inch model instead. Our room size chart helps.
Our take
Variable phase, a limiter and proper inputs make the Basik Sub more than a pretty box. Whether it’s good value will depend on final street pricing, especially in the US. We’ll keep an eye on early reviews.
