LG is pushing a free software update to its Sound Suite home theater system, and the headline for bass fans is simple: you can now run two W7 subwoofers instead of one. The same update brings DTS:X decoding to the H7 soundbar, adds Google Cast, and improves Wi-Fi support. Here’s what changes, and whether a second sub is worth buying.
- LG announced the update on 14 October 2026. It arrives as a software update, and timing varies by country, model and router.
- Sound Suite can now use two W7 wireless subwoofers in compatible setups.
- The H7 soundbar gains DTS:X support, so it’s no longer Dolby Atmos only.
- Google Cast is added, plus support for 6 GHz Wi-Fi and 5 GHz DFS channels.
- No new prices; the update is free. A “Media Connect Hub” for DTS:X from external sources is still in development.
What’s in the update
Sound Suite is LG’s modular system: you start with the H7 soundbar and add speakers and a sub as you like, with Dolby Atmos FlexConnect handling the setup. LG’s release lists these additions:
| Feature | What it means |
|---|---|
| Dual W7 subwoofers | Pair a second wireless W7 for more placement options and more even bass across seats |
| DTS:X on the H7 | Object-based DTS soundtracks (common on 4K Blu-ray) decode natively |
| Google Cast | Cast music and podcasts from Android phones, tablets and Chrome |
| 6 GHz Wi-Fi and 5 GHz DFS | More network options, which can help wireless speakers in crowded Wi-Fi areas |
| Media Connect Hub | In development, for DTS:X from external sources; details to follow |
LG hasn’t published a rollout calendar. Its release says availability depends on model, country or region, router compatibility and software version, and early coverage reports the update is already rolling out in some regions. If you own the system, check for updates in the LG app.
Is a second subwoofer worth it?
Often, yes, but not for the reason most people expect. A second sub doesn’t mainly make bass louder; it makes it more even. Every room has spots where bass piles up and spots where it nearly disappears. One sub excites those room modes in one pattern; two subs in different places excite them differently, and the peaks and dips partly cancel out. The result is bass that sounds similar from every seat rather than great in one chair and thin in the next. LG makes the same point, saying the feature is meant to improve consistency across seating positions.
That means placement matters more than the second sub itself. Good starting points are opposite walls or the midpoints of the front and back walls. Our dual subwoofer setup guide explains the options, and the two-sub tab in our placement calculator lets you compare layouts for your room before you buy. If you only have one W7 now, moving it can make a big difference; see where to place a subwoofer with a soundbar.
The W7 is a compact wireless sub; its retail listing describes it as an 8-inch design. Two of them won’t match one large 12-inch sub for deep, loud output, but for a soundbar system in a typical living room, smoother bass across the sofa is the more noticeable upgrade.
What it means for you
- Existing owners: it’s free, so install it. DTS:X support alone is worthwhile if you watch discs.
- Thinking about a second W7? Try repositioning your current sub first. If bass still changes a lot from seat to seat, a second W7 is the right fix. The LG W7 wireless subwoofer is sold separately.
- Shopping for a soundbar? Two-sub support makes the LG Sound Suite H7 more flexible than most soundbar systems, which only pair one sub.
Our take
Few soundbar systems let you add a second subwoofer, so this is a genuinely useful update for bass. It isn’t a sound-quality overhaul, though: What Hi-Fi? gave Sound Suite three stars and says the update doesn’t address its reservations about the system’s tonal balance and dialogue. Treat the new features as a bonus, not a reason to change your verdict on the sound.
